〜をもとに(して)
JLPT N2をもとに
based on ~ (as material)
接続 · How it attaches
名詞 + をもとに(して)
Nuance
The source is raw material you build something new from, and the result is free to depart from it — a film based on a true story. If departing from the source would be wrong, you want 〜に基づいて.
Example sentences
この映画は実際の事件をもとに作られた。
This film was made based on a real incident.
Not to be confused with
- 〜に基づいて/〜に基づく — 〜をもとに is material you may freely rework; 〜に基づいて is authority you must not depart from.
